Your Department Board of Trustees has agreed to host a Department Conference on August 21st and 22nd. This two-day event will replace the single day previously agreed upon. There is just too much information sharing and activities needed, to compress all our annual meeting into a single day and still allow sufficient travel times.
The Conference will be held at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Montgomery. Richard Davis has obtained a good room rate of $98 a night there. With taxes and parking, your cost should be about $125 per room night. Meetings will take place in the Ballroom which will be set up to accommodate social distancing.
There is no host detachment for this Conference. As such Members are on their own to make Hotel reservations and meal plans. (We would like to know who plans to attend so that we can set the conference room accordingly.) Reservation information will be placed on the Department website as soon as details are complete.
All Members are encouraged to attend. Detachment elected and staff officers and those aspiring to be detachment officers will find this meeting especially rewarding in fulfilling their local responsibilities.
The rough agenda for the Conference will be:
Friday, August 21
Devil Dog Growl beginning about 1400, followed by –
Training sessions for Paymasters and Commandants (and those who wish or may be such in the future) and a session on the new data system that National is adopting.
Then, later in the afternoon Commandants Council and meetings of the Marine of the Year and Associate Member of the Year committees.
Saturday, August 22
More formal meeting following the MCL Ritual, beginning around 0900 and ending with election and installation of the 2020-2021 officers. Hopefully, we will finish before 1300 on Saturday.
Again, please let your detachment officers know that you plan to attend. They in turn should notify Kenya Thomas and me.

Uphold the traditions of the United States Marine Corps, Participate in the community for the betterment of all, to keep alive the connection between those actively serving and those no longer active, to bond with our fellow Marines and servicemembers and promote comaraderie, TO PROTECT AND ADVANCE THE WELFARE OF THE WOUNDED AND DISABLED MARINES, VETERANS, AND THEIR DEPENDENTS
A group of young Marines joined together to create a new Marine Corps League in Mobile, Alabama. Many of the young Marines were from the University of South Alabama‘s Student Veteran Association, known as the “Jag Vets”. The original charter consist of 33 members with a median age of 38 years old. This is an excited new group of people ready to jump in and do some good work for Marines. The detachment was named for Marine Sgt. Foster L. Harrington. Foster served with Mobile’s 3rd Force Reconnaissance Company. Foster was KIA in September of 2004 while on deployment to Iraq in the Al-Anbar Province. Our detachment meets the 2nd Wednesday, 18:30 hours at Kravers Seafood 2368 Leroy Stevens Rd, Mobile, AL 36695.
